About

I live in San Francisco with my husband Jay, in a tiny apartment in the Mission District. As a new girl to the city, I love exploring the different pockets and neighborhoods, sniffing all of the rose bushes and dodging the piles of human detritus on the sidewalks of the Mission. In addition to painting and drawing, I am a freelance illustrator and writer, and I occasionally design screen-printed apparel that Jay fantastically executes in T-shirt form.

When I’m not painting, I can be found: inventing new kinds of soup, picking through thrift stores, walking for miles around the city, watching reruns of Ren and Stimpy or nature documentaries, drinking wine and dancing to soul music (with or without the company of others).

Statement

I am fascinated by the natural world, the workings of the human mind and the ways that individuals and entire invent meaning in worldly phenomena, giving birth to the realm of symbolism.

My paintings and drawings feature trompe l’oeil clusters of animals, insects, plants, fruits, molecular structures, and colorful graphic elements inspired by collages I create as sketches. Through the careful implementation of paint, graphite, or colored pencil on to paper, panel, or canvas, viewers are under the false impression that they are experiencing a collage. This effect draws them in ever closer, as they realize the truth of paint disguised as cut out paper. The compositions are worlds unto themselves; symbiotic accumulations inspired by the systems within nature, and the human experience of recognizing beauty and inventing meaning.
